After the service, the student-athletes enthusiastically assumed a role in the kitchen… some serving the food, some handing out drinks and others cleaning dishes.  They worked hard for the next two hours, serving the women and children first, followed by the men’s meal.

“It was great to see the guys demonstrate a servant’s spirit so willingly and so completely,” said Coach Jones.  “There was no hesitation, just a desire to pitch in and help those in need.”

Head Coach Bill Brindley placed first in the over-30 division and 10^th overall.  Team captain and striker Addison Simms placed 2^nd in the 20-24 division. 

“It was a beautiful morning for a run and we enjoyed the opportunity to come out and support the important work of the Rescue Mission,” said Coach Brindley. “Our guys got a chance to go down and serve at the mission last semester, which really opened their eyes to the needs of our fellow man. So they were excited about the opportunity to support the Run for Shelter.”

TBC Student-Athletes and coaches hold some of the toys they collected during the Eagle Athletics Christmas Toy Drive.

Members of the men’s and women’s basketball teams visited the Trinity Rescue Mission on December 13^th to deliver toys that they collected during the 1^st Annual Eagle Athletics Christmas Toy Drive.  The idea was the brainchild of Coach Kelly Brindley, who ran point on organizing the effort.  All of the TBC Coaches jumped on board and encouraged the involvement of the student-athletes from all five sports programs - men’s soccer, women’s volleyball, cheerleading, and men’s & women’s basketball. 

Toys were collected at several donation boxes placed around campus.  In addition, patrons attending the home basketball games were given free admission if they brought a toy to the game.  The effort was a great success and the student-athletes felt blessed to be able to travel together as a group to deliver the toys in person. 

“I am grateful to Coach Kelly Brindley and the leadership she provided to help make this new tradition a success,” said Trinity Athletic Director John D. Jones.  “I also want to thank the Trinity community at large, including so many in the Church and the Academy, who came along side to support this worthy effort.  Most importantly, our young people were personally and spiritually affected in positive ways by learning to use their God-given platform as student-athletes to help meet a need.  We praise God for this.”

Merry Christmas from TBC Athletics!

SEU started off hot as they ran out to a 15-3 lead at the 14:02 mark thanks to three buckets from beyond the arc from Jordan Talley.  But a three-point basket from the top of the key by Regan O’Rourke seemed to get the Eagles offense going, as TBC out-scored the Fire 13-5 over the next four minutes to draw within three points.  Southeastern began another three-point barrage to open the lead back up to 12 points with two minutes to go in the half.

The final two minutes of the first half would foreshadow what was to come in the second, as turnovers and fouls allowed Trinity to climb back within three points going into the locker room at halftime.

The Eagles buckled down defensively and forced SEU into nine second half turnovers and held them to 28% shooting from the field.  Trinity began to slowly build a lead that extended to 10 points on a pair of Corey Roth free throws with six minutes remaining.  TBC kept Southeastern at bay down the stretch, behind a 16-22 second-half effort from the free throw line.

The Eagles offense produced a balanced attack as four players scored in double figures.  In addition to Perkins, Corey Roth added 14 points to go along with 4 assists and 3 steals, Regan O’Rourke was 3-7 from three on his way to 11 points, and Charles Cooks came off the bench to score 10 points.  Darrius Jones provided a spark with 8 points, 2 steals and a key charge late in the game that seemed to douse the Fire for good.

The Trinity defense forced Northside into 26 turnovers and held them to 30% shooting.  The offense was led by Braddy who went 5-7 from the three-point line and finished with a game high 27 points.  Quinton Powell continued his stellar play at the point position, scoring 18 points on 7-9 shooting, and dishing out 5 assists.  Alan Sylvain contributed 10 points and 7 rebounds to the winning cause.

The NIT team will host Mid Atlantic Christian University on Friday at 3pm.

The Lady Eagles raced out to a 20 point halftime cushion and cruised to a 78-43 win.  Two players posted double/doubles as Nicole Collins had 28 points and 12 rebounds, and Valerie Leland scored 21 points and grabbed 10 boards. 

In the second game, the Eagle Men posted a 96-66 victory over the Bruins.  Xavier Perkins had a double/double with 27 points and 17 rebounds, while Cory Roth added 25 points and Regan O'Rourke scored 23 points.

In the final round of the Eagle Tip-off Classic on Saturday, the women faced a tough Johnson & Wales team from Miami, FL.  The visiting Wildcats are a NAIA school that offers full athletic scholarships.  But our Lady Eagles were up to the task, eventually pulling away for the 72-63 win.  Nicole Collins and Valery Leland again led the way with 23 and 22 points respectively. 

In the night cap, the Trinity Baptist Men's Basketball defeated Hiwassee College 68-46. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the young season.  TBC held their opponents to 32% shooting and controlled the glass 36-29, holding their opponents below 50 points for the 1st time this season.  

Senior forward Xavier Perkins posted his second consecutive double/double with 21 point and 11 boards to help the Eagles pull away in the final 10 minutes.   Perkins was selected as the NCCAA National Player of the Week for his stellar play over the weekend.

"I've loved being the head coach at Trinity for 17 years, but I recognize that the time has come to move into the future and to step into a new role," the 61-year-old TBC Hall of Famer said in a statement issued by the school.  “When the college announced that we were moving into the NCCAA and adding new sports, I recognized it as a good time to begin transitioning into a new role.  This change will allow me to focus more time on developing new programs, while being able to spend more time with my wife and grandchildren.”

TBC Athletic Director and current assistant coach, John D. Jones will take over for Milligan, who will become head coach emeritus of the Eagle basketball program.

"One of the pleasant surprises I've experienced is the way everyone pulls together to accomplish goals that are larger than a college our size might reasonably expect to attain.  Someone once said, 'There is no limit to what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the credit.'  Coach Pat Milligan is a living example of that truth," said Mac Heavener, president of Trinity Baptist College. 

Milligan will continue to serve the athletic program in his new role, while assisting the program he guided to three Bible College NIT titles since taking over in 1995.  His TBC record currently stands at 299-238, and his career record is an impressive 807-439.

Trinity said that Milligan's responsibilities will include leading the new NIT team, assisting with the development of new sports, helping with recruiting and game scheduling, advising the NCCAA South Region on men's basketball issues, and mentoring TBC team captains in leadership skills through the Trinity Athletic Leadership Institute. 

“Coach Milligan’s legacy as a founding leader of the NIT tournament and his success in winning three titles is highly respected by those of us in college basketball circles,” said Jones.  "TBC values our historic involvement in the Bible College NIT and we are glad that we will be able to continue that relationship.” 

Dean of Students Jeremiah Stanley, who has worked closely with Coach Milligan for years, stated, “Coach has been a faithful and godly example to so many students at Trinity Baptist College throughout his many years here. I admire his commitment and dedication to our college. His sacrificial work and diligent effort will impact our institution for years to come.”

His impact reaches beyond wins and losses. Every TBC Eagle player who has completed his athletic eligibility at Trinity Baptist has graduated, and 46 former players are currently serving the Lord in full-time Christian work.

"Words cannot adequately describe the gratitude we feel for the contributions Coach Milligan has made to the ministry of TBC Athletics," Trinity Baptist College Chancellor Dr. Tom Messer said. "He is a model of class and consistency, and I don't think that enough can be said for just how much Pat has accomplished in building and elevating TBC men's basketball to its current heights."

The Trinitarian student newspaper is now accepting applications for staff positions for the next school year. We’re looking for writers, editors, photographers, and videographers.

Newspaper will be offered as a class, giving you the opportunity to earn elective credits and improve your GPA. If you want to be considered for the 2012-2013 newspaper staff, fill out an application—available in the student center and the academic office—and send it to Mrs. Hozey.

    Being a leader can be a lonely task.  Although I have always felt in my heart that I truly depend on the Lord, I didn't realize how much I looked to other people in our congregation for approval.  After a phone call one afternoon I felt so encouraged about ministry, and it made me step back and ask myself a question that led to a revelation in my life.  The question was, "Why did that phone call just put me in a good mood?"  Sure the obvious answer was that it was a positive conversation about ministry (which is a conversation always welcomed by a pastor), but why was my joy so closely linked to this phone call?  As I began to analyze this thought, the answer was apparent.  The person on the other end of the line was someone that I thought was unhappy about some particular part of my leadership (Which part? I had no idea.).  After the phone call was positive and encouraging, it made me think how nice it was to feel like I had their support.  It was then that I felt the Lord speaking to me in a very real way.  His voice was of course not audible, but loud just the same.  I realized that God was trying to say, "I'm here...I'm here with my arm around you, and I'm cheering you on.  All of heaven sees you and is cheering you on, don't stop, you're doing great!"  This revolutionized the way I viewed leadership and ministry. 

    I felt like a new person.  I had an energy that I hadn't felt in a long time.  In reality, looking back on it, there was no real lack of support from anybody.  There was no plan against me, but I found myself in a dark time, nonetheless.  The lesson I learned, that I hope can be a help to you, is that if God has His arm around you cheering you on, then you will be just fine.  Since I began to think of leadership in ministry as relating God's agenda to our church, it took the stress off of me.  I was taking on burdens I was never meant to bear.  If you are looking for an amazing red carpet to be rolled out with thousands of people thanking you for all the hard work you put in, you will be disappointed in life.  If you understand that God Himself is with you, then you will never be disappointed, no matter what the circumstances are communicating to you.

    It is not my intention to portray serving God as a doom and gloom situation, but rather the opposite.  Serving God will result in true joy that nobody else can touch.  I wouldn't want to do anything else with my life.  Serving God has been an amazing adventure.  I look forward to seeing what God will do through me and those around me.  We serve a great God, so that means we can pray big.  If you are going through a difficult time in ministry right now, please know that you serve the King, not any sort of board!  Have a Kingdom perspective and let the minor things stay minor.  Serving God is worth it!  If I can ever do anything to help you in anyway, please feel free to contact me.

Mrs. Stanley:  First, we would like to know a little about you.

Mrs. Crawford:  I've been teaching Speech and Drama for over twenty years, and my desire is to inspire my students to use their talents, whether it's in music or drama, for the glory of God.  I have a Masters Degree in Speech performance and one in Theatre.  I've been married for 23 years and my husband, Mark, is now heading up the music department here at Trinity.  I have two children, Claire (age 14) and Clay (age 10).

Mrs. Stanley:  Last year Trinity had some new productions and you brought back the play productions.  Tell us a little about last year's productions.

Mrs. Crawford:  Last year we had four productions on campus.  The new tradition we started is called EvenSong. This production is held once each semester and features the students and faculty in our music department, as well as in our newly formed Speech/Drama department.  This production is held during a Sunday night church service and has an inspirational theme.  Our goal for EvenSong is two-fold:  to give our students a platform for performance, and to allow our audience to focus on God through the messages in the music and drama.

We also brought back one of Trinity's older traditions and that is with the play productions.  Last fall, we started small with two one-act plays in our "Evening with A. A. Milne."  Then in the spring semester we were privileged to present a play in the new E-theatre space, and the students performed "Meet Me in St. Louis".  The students really love the opportunity to get involved in the play productions, and the audiences really seem to enjoy the plays too.

One other new tradition we started last year was our Graduation Conference Contests.  We had various categories for students to compete in and the winners were featured in a Wednesday evening service along with the candidates for the preaching contest.

Mrs. Stanley:  Do you have anything new planned for this year?

Mrs. Crawford:  Well, in addition to our EvenSong productions and play productions, we are planning a brand new event we think will be a really great addition to the Trinity traditions.  We will be presenting what we are calling "ChristmasFest". This is primarily a big Christmas concert presented by the various singing groups in our church, our academy, and our college.  It will be an outdoor concert presented on the mall area of the main campus. We will have cookies and hot chocolate, and we are hoping that over time we can add additional activities.  We think this will become not only a favorite Trinity tradition, but also a favorite family tradition for the folks in our ministry as well as the community. 

Mrs. Stanley:  Give us a glimpse of your vision for the Fine Arts at Trinity.

Mrs. Crawford:  I have many ideas, and I don't think you have enough time to hear them all, but one goal has already been implemented, and that is the new Secondary Education degree in Speech and Drama.  My goal is to see that program grow, and in time, add new areas of Fine Arts to our offerings.  In addition to praying for new students, I am also praying that God provides us with a Fine Arts facility.  I am excited to be here at Trinity and thankful for this “dream job” to grow a Fine Arts program at Trinity Baptist College.

I promised you when I preached in chapel last week that I would send out a challenge over the Christmas break about discovering God's plan for your life. I'm enjoying my vacation today, but it was very important to me that you had this to work on.

The passage that I would like you to focus on this week is Psalm 139:13-18. Write out ten insights about God or about you, like you did with the passages in Jeremiah. I want you to see how important you are to God and understand how uniquely He made you. As you do this, remember that it is not about having devotions; it is about devoting yourself to God, allowing Him to reveal Himself to you and surrendering yourself to His will.

For the sake of accountability, I encourage you to share your thoughts with a friend or a mentor.

On Friday, our men and women’s basketball teams played the annual alumni games. The Trinity Eagles showcased their skill and gave our students a chance to show their school spirit!  College Days visitors attended our Western-themed Fall Event, which included a chili cook-off involving many of our faculty, a pig chase, a funny skit, and great food.  They finished off the day with a hayride and a bonfire.

Thank you for your continued prayers on our behalf. We are hoping that by tomorrow we will begin to see some clearer skies as this weather system moves past us.

Last evening, we endured heavy rains which are continuing into today. The sustained winds were not real high but there were occasional gusts of wind that became an issue.

On campus, we had a pine tree fall onto the new Student Welcome Center. This was an unfortunate circumstance, but even in this instance we can see the providential hand of God. Just last semester this was a men’s dormitory and we are blessed in the fact that no one was in this part of the building when the tree fell.

As the winds picked up last night, we took two precautionary steps to ensure the safety of the students.

We moved all students from Closs/Miller halls (our one-story residence halls) into the two-story residences

Due to some large pine trees being in front of Gray Hall, we moved all the girls down to the first-floor of this residence.

Please continue to pray for us. We are being told that conditions should begin to improve over the next 24-48 hours. We are primarily dealing with rain at this point. Our dormitories are positioned in such a way that flooding should not be an issue.

Last Sunday night, Pastor Messer addressed the congregation concerning a monumental issue affecting the state of Florida. On the election ballot this November is Amendment 2, which defines marriage as between one man and one woman. Messer expressed his concern for our state asking everyone to get involved.

According to Messer, the passing of this amendment gives Christians a chance to stand firm on Biblical truths, uphold the sacredness of marriage, and protect the traditional family.  

“Kids need a mom and a dad, not two moms or two dads,” explains Messer, “It is our responsibility as a church to raise awareness and support for this issue that will have major impact on our children and our children’s children.”

The Garden Club in downtown Jacksonville was alive with hustle and bustle as Trinity Baptist College students arrived donning masks, tuxedos, gowns and, for some, super-hero costumes!

The theme of this year's banquet was "Viva La Masque." A spin-off from such great productions as Phantom of the Opera, in which people attended a "Masquerade Ball" wearing masks of all shapes and sizes.

While the dormitory students appreciate their food service meal plans from the dining commons, it was a refreshing break to spend the evening indulging in some of the best food in all of Jacksonville. They were equally entertained by the impromptu drama, and the fun to be had at each table with their respective dates. As everyone chattered and smiled, camera flashes periodically lit the room up from groups of students snapping pictures.

After the banquet many students headed for local spots like Starbucks or even the beach, while others just cruised around Jacksonville and enjoyed the evening.

The Spring Banquet is always a highlight for Trinity students, and this year was no exception. Viva La Masque has come and gone, but the memories the students made will last long after college.
